Spy films and sartorial trends
Hi my dear readers! Today I want to share with you 2 inspiration: Cinema and “how to spend a little for a coat” one of the things that my readers ask me more frequently.
Let’s start with Cinema: as everybody knows the world of film has long had a powerful influence on fashion – and  currently I’m watching a lot of old movies to find ideas for my outfit and my shopping session though vintage and new collection. From early Hollywood starlets to the LA celebs of today; the big screen has provided inspiration for many of our fashion choices. The hype surrounding film releases is nowadays focused not only on the plot, but also, increasingly, the costumes.
Spy films have been huge in recent years, and due to the style and glamour associated with the genre, the characters’ wardrobes have garnered much attention. Think of the elegant full-length dresses Angelina Jolie wore in Mr and Mrs Smith, or the retro spectacles and trench coats in last year’s Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The biggest film in the genre this year is the latest James Bond instalment, Skyfall, and as well as the gadgets and 007′s love interests, as usual there’s much discussion of the cast’s wardrobes.
Daniel Craig again stars as the eponymous British spy, with the stunning Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe as this year’s Bond girls, who showcase an enviable wardrobe both on screen and on the red carpet. Interestingly, these two actresses chose to wear two very different outfits at one of their first appearances together at a New York photo call, though both channelled a classic spy-themed look.
Marlohe chose to cover up in a knee-length brown coat-dress with a hint of classic trench about it, whereas Harris opted for a structured black minidress and dominatrix-style leather heels. Whereas one actress showcased a daring Bond girl look, the other showed how a more conservative – though still suitably themed – outfit could work just as well.
In her glamorous Marios Schwab dress, Harris seemed to have taken inspiration from the many Bond girls before her, who have also made an impression on the fashion scene at large. Her choice of a little black dress was no doubt inspired by the wardrobes of her forerunners Eva Green and Gemma Arterton, whose on-screen wardrobes favoured dark-hued pieces.
Marlohe’s brown coat-dress paid homage to the style of femme fatales in classic thrillers of the 1950s. The female stars of Hitchcock’s films, including Grace Kelly and Ingrid Bergman, showcased trench coats to great effect, an iconic look that dates back to Greta Garbo – and still remains popular today! To get the look yourself, check out the fabulous range of trench coats at Very.co.uk. a lovely website that I’ve recently discovered browsing day by day, for satisfying the need to find something cool and cheap at the same time ;)
Did you know it?
Did you see how many cool items are there?
